SACRAMENTO, CA – The California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) will launch the next phase of its “Climate Courage” campaign today, deploying a mobile billboard with striking images of California wildfires displayed at the State Capitol in the final days of this year’s legislative session.

With the intensifying climate crisis harming Californians today and making headlines worldwide, the campaign demands that State Senate leaders Pro Tem Toni Atkins, Majority Leader Robert Hertzberg, and Energy Committee Chair Ben Hueso stop blocking and delaying action to protect the climate and commit to passing AB 1395 (Muratsuchi). The bill would accelerate California’s progress to become carbon neutral, requiring steep reductions in greenhouse gas emissions (90% below 1990 levels by 2045).

“Californians have suffered far too much already. Record drought, heatwaves, and near year-round wildfires fueled by Big Oil are causing widespread devastation. California must act now to sharply reduce greenhouse gas emissions if we are to prevent even greater suffering,” said Mary Creasman, EnviroVoters CEO. “Senate Democratic leaders Toni Atkins, Robert Hertzberg, and Ben Hueso must find climate courage and commit to moving AB 1395 forward. Protecting our future will require confronting big oil and gas interests.”

The mobile billboard campaign directs audiences to the Climate Courage campaign website, ClimateCourageCA.org, and video content encourages viewers to demand immediate action from Senate leaders who have stalled urgent climate action legislation.

California Environmental Voters (formerly the California League of Conservation Voters) believes the climate crisis is here and this moment requires transformative change. California has the policy solutions to stop climate change but lacks the political will to do it at the rate and scale that’s necessary. EnviroVoters exists to build the political power to solve the climate crisis, advance justice, and create a roadmap for global action. We organize voters, elect and train candidates, and hold lawmakers accountable for bold policy change. We won’t stop until we have resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all.
