POLL: Californians Feeling Affordability Pressures, Demanding Climate Action

LOS ANGELES, CA — Today, California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) released the following statement in response to the Public Policy Institute of California’s (PPIC) statewide survey on Californians and the environment. 

“This polling affirms we’ve been right about this all along. Californians know they’re paying for the climate crisis every time they fill up their tank, open their utility bills, or struggle to make ends meet. They want polluters held accountable, corporations cutting emissions, and real solutions that lower costs,” said Matt Abularach-Macias, Political & Organizing Director, California Environmental Voters. “Anyone running for office this November should read the writing on the wall. Voters are done with excuses and they’re looking for leaders who treat climate action as economic relief.”

Key poll results: 

– 55% of voters say California’s stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.

– 40% of voters believe it’s important for California to remain a global leader in addressing the climate crisis.

– 78% of voters view the climate crisis as a threat to California’s economy, including 54% who say it poses an especially serious threat to low-income communities.

– 65% of voters support California’s goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045.

– 73% of voters support requiring corporations to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

– 96% of voters say the cost of energy is a problem.

– 63% of voters oppose expanding offshore oil drilling.
