SACRAMENTO, CA — Today, California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) released the following statement in response to the Legislature sending SB 954, authored by Senator Blakespear, to the Governor’s desk.

“Today, the Legislature stood up for California communities by delivering on its promise to close a dangerous loophole that gave the dirtiest industries a free pass. The Radius Recycling fires in West Oakland and the near-explosion at GKN Aerospace in Garden Grove this year are stark reminders of what’s at stake. The development of facilities like these should not be able to sidestep the protections Californians rely on to protect our health, air, and water. Now, as the Trump Administration is systematically dismantling California’s environmental protections, Governor Newsom must make clear that polluting industries in California do not get to skirt the rules at the expense of our communities.”
