SACRAMENTO, CA – The California Environmental Voters Education Fund (EnviroVoters Ed Fund) announced today that former Congressman Harley Rouda will join the organization’s Board of Directors. Rouda represented California’s 48th House District from 2019 to 2021, which encompasses parts of Orange County.
The EnviroVoters Ed Fund fights for equity and justice for all Californians, from voting rights to clean air and water. Since 1996, the organization has worked to make government, policy, and voting accessible by conducting public opinion research, shaping the public narrative, organizing with allies and local communities, and educating legislators on pressing environmental issues.
“I am honored to join the EnviroVoters Ed Fund Board of Directors,” said Rouda. “At a time when state and federal climate action is more critical than ever, I look forward to continuing the necessary work of engaging California voters in this immediate fight against the climate crisis.”
Rouda brings a long-standing track record on climate and environmental issues to the EnviroVoters Ed Fund Board. While serving in the U.S. House Rouda helped secure full and permanent funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund, which will protect and maintain California’s most iconic beaches, national parks, wildlife refuges and other public lands now and into the future.
Rouda also served as the Chair of an Oversight and Reform subcommittee tasked with environmental issues, where he led an investigation into harmful per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in drinking water. This effort laid the groundwork for the proposed protections for clean drinking water in President Biden’s Build Back Better Act. Rouda was a champion for protecting California’s coasts from offshore drilling and transitioning to renewable energy.
“Harley Rouda is a true champion for climate action and a powerful consensus builder,” said Mary Creasman, CEO of EnviroVoters Ed Fund. “He has helped secure protections for treasured public lands across California, ensure our drinking water is clean and safe, and support a clean energy economy by ending offshore oil drilling. We look forward to partnering together to push for a more sustainable and just future for all Californians.”
