OAKLAND, CA — Today, California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) released the following statement on California’s insurer of last resort, the FAIR Plan, increasing rates by an average of 29.1% statewide. This is the highest increase in recent history and takes effect today.

“Californians are once again on the hook for a crisis they didn’t cause. Fossil fuel companies spent decades deceiving the public while their pollution made wildfires bigger, costlier, and more frequent. And they’re still polluting and profiting while homeowners and taxpayers absorb soaring insurance costs. Instead of passing the bill to renters, homeowners, and small businesses we should be demanding accountability from major oil corporations. There is no fix for California’s insurance crisis without bringing the biggest polluters to the table.”
