LOS ANGELES, CA — Today, California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) released the following statement on Jane Kim’s election as California’s next Insurance Commissioner.

Statement from Mike Young, Executive Director, California Environmental Voters:

“California’s insurance crisis is getting harder for families to ignore as insurance becomes out of reach with skyrocketing premiums and canceled policies driven by climate-related risks. This race between Kim and Senator Allen elevated the debate on what’s needed to address California’s crumbling insurance market, put the insurance and climate crises front and center, and made clear that business as usual is not an option.

While we’re disappointed that Ben Allen won’t be able to continue the critical leadership he’s delivered on these issues as our next Insurance Commissioner, we know Jane Kim will fight to protect consumers the way she fought and won a hard-earned victory in this race. We look forward to working with her to deliver affordable insurance that protects Californians.”

ABOUT CALIFORNIA ENVIRONMENTAL VOTERS

California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) believes the climate crisis is here and this moment requires transformative change. California has the policy solutions to stop climate change but lacks the political will to do it at the rate and scale that’s necessary. EnviroVoters exists to build the political power to solve the climate crisis, advance justice, and create a roadmap for global action. We organize voters, elect and train candidates, and hold lawmakers accountable for bold policy change. We won’t stop until we have resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all.
