LOS ANGELES, CA — Today, California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) released the following statement in response to President Trump’s 78 anti-environmental Executive Orders on his first day in office.
Statement from Mike Young, Executive Director, California Environmental Voters:
“This is a long-haul fight, and we know their Project 2025 playbook. Trump’s executive orders are a direct attack on the progress we’ve made to protect our communities from climate disasters. These decisions prioritize corporate profits at the expense of the health, safety, and future of our communities. We’ve beat back his many handouts to corporate polluters the first term, and we’ll need to do it again.
Trump has consistently put communities at risk. By pulling the U.S. out of the Paris Climate Agreement, he’s turning his back on coordinated efforts to address the climate crisis that disproportionately harms low-income communities and communities of color. He’s paused IRA funding, stalling critical investments in clean energy, jobs, and climate-resilient infrastructure. He’s pushing to expand offshore drilling, exposing communities to increased pollution and disaster risks. These actions endanger people’s lives and livelihoods, making it clear why we must hold leaders accountable.
But we need your help to make it happen. We know that the best defense is a strong offense, and we can’t afford to sit back while harmful policies threaten the future of trans rights, immigrant communities, and climate action. California’s leadership and commitment to a bold, progressive agenda will be critical to pushing back and setting an example for the rest of the country.
