OAKLAND, CA — Today, California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) released the following statement on Governor Newsom vetoing SB 954, which would have cleaned up a dangerous advanced manufacturing loophole in the California Environmental Quality Act.

Statement from Shannon Olivieri Hovis, Chief Strategy Officer, California Environmental Voters:

“Today’s decision is deeply out of touch with the overwhelming majority of Californians who want their air, water, and health protected from industrial pollution, and goes against the nearly two-thirds of state legislators who voted to protect them. This veto endangers communities and leaves Californians exposed to industrial hazards, like strip mining and chemical manufacturing. We look forward to working with California’s next Governor to finish what SB 954 started.”
