LOS ANGELES, CA — Today, California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) released the following statement on early election results and the influence of corporate spending in key California races.
Statement from Mike Young, Executive Director, California Environmental Voters:
“When we vote, seismic change happens. Voters across the country are rejecting Trump’s corruption and attacks on our health and economy. And in California, voters overwhelmingly rejected Props 39 and 45, Californians have made clear that our democracy, our health, and the environment can’t be bought. At the same time, Prop 42’s early lead is a warning sign of just how much power corporations hold in our politics. Initial counts show Big Tech eclipsing Big Oil in electoral spending for the first time this year, and their aligned saturation of our elections inundated voters in Dem-on-Dem races, creating confusion on what candidates would reflect their values. Despite that, climate justice candidates are in a strong position to win up and down the state as we wait until every ballot is counted. The mandate from voters is clear, and with environmental candidates Randy Villegas and Marni von Wilpert flipping their seats and heading to Congress, we’ve won 7 out of 9 of our congressional races with an additional possible flip still up in the air. The election will be remembered as a generational shift in our country because voters showed up and exercised our collective power to hold leaders accountable.”

ABOUT CALIFORNIA ENVIRONMENTAL VOTERS
California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) believes the climate crisis is here and this moment requires transformative change. California has the policy solutions to stop climate change but lacks the political will to do it at the rate and scale that’s necessary. EnviroVoters exists to build the political power to solve the climate crisis, advance justice, and create a roadmap for global action. We organize voters, elect and train candidates, and hold lawmakers accountable for bold policy change. We won’t stop until we have resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all.
