FRESNO, CA — Today, California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) released the following statement endorsing Richard Barrera for Superintendent of Public Instruction.

Statement from Andrew Escamilla, Campaigns & Organizing Manager, California Environmental Voters:

“California’s public schools are anchors of our communities, and in too many places, they’re on the front lines of climate disasters, from extreme heat and wildfire to flooding and poor air quality. Richard Barrera understands that we have to invest in our schools accordingly, protecting education funding, directing resources toward climate resilience, and expanding school sites as places where civic engagement begins. At a time when our democracy is under pressure, our schools should be places where California students learn how to engage, speak up, and build the future together. Barrera is the leader California’s students and communities need.”

ABOUT CALIFORNIA ENVIRONMENTAL VOTERS

California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) believes the climate crisis is here and this moment requires transformative change. California has the policy solutions to stop climate change but lacks the political will to do it at the rate and scale that’s necessary. EnviroVoters exists to build the political power to solve the climate crisis, advance justice, and create a roadmap for global action. We organize voters, elect and train candidates, and hold lawmakers accountable for bold policy change. We won’t stop until we have resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all.
