OAKLAND, CA — Today, California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) released the following statement in response to Big Oil funneling $700,000 against Jerry McNerney to promote Assemblymember Carlos Villapudua, one of the Legislature’s most industry-aligned Democrats.

EnviroVoters has endorsed Jerry McNerney, who had a 95% lifetime score in the National Environmental Scorecard for championing the environment throughout his time in Congress, for Senate District 5.

Statement from Veda Banerjee, Communications Director, California Environmental Voters:

“Today, we stand witness to a clear indication of who truly champions environmental causes. Corporate polluters are going all out against McNerney – a testament to their fear of his unwavering dedication to safeguarding climate justice. Emerging from a recent retirement, McNerney has consistently championed initiatives to protect communities from extreme wildfires, flooding, and pollution throughout his tenure in Congress. His recognition of the global impact of California’s legislation underscores his understanding of the urgent need for bold, proactive policy. In the face of opposition fueled by dark interests, McNerney displays an unyielding commitment to our future.”
