OAKLAND, CA — Today, California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) released the following statement in response to the House of Representatives voting 214-211 to repeal the ‘At-Berth’ and Commercial Harbor Craft (CHC) regulations, which have protected communities from dangerous port pollution since 2014 and 2009 respectively. The vote was bundled in a nonsense package of resolutions to appease Republicans voting for the illegal resolutions.
Statement from Aaron McCall, Federal Advocacy Coordinator, California Environmental Voters:
“The House narrowly succeeded in its latest desperate attempt to attack California and give corporate polluters yet another handout. We know exactly who this scheme is for. And despite burying the waivers in a patchwork package of unrelated Republican policy priorities, the vote was extremely close. Republicans in Congress are working overtime to please Trump and give polluters a free pass, all while knowing it won’t do anything to address the soaring gas prices and energy bills everyday Americans are facing. Every California Congressional Democrat held the line, urging their colleagues to stand with them. Attorney General Bonta secured preliminary injunctions against the Trump Administration’s illegal actions, yet Congress still wasted time voting on laws the EPA has been explicitly directed to stop playing games with. This isn’t over. California is fighting back against this blatant and illegal attack.”
