Los Angeles, CA- Today the California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) announced a new partnership with the Environmental Media Association (EMA) to raise awareness and spur action on the climate crisis. Over the coming months, the two organizations will share public service announcements and host interviews and events featuring California celebrities calling for bold climate action from the Biden administration as it promises to Build Back Better.

“I’m honored to join EnviroVoters and EMA in the fight to address the climate crisis,” said Lance Bass, Board Co-Chair of the Environmental Media Association and entertainer/entrepreneur. “We’re looking to President Biden’s leadership to ensure safe drinking water, clean air, and healthier futures for all Californians.”

As part of the new partnership, EnviroVoters and EMA hosted a discussion with actress Constance Zimmer (Grey’s Anatomy, House of Cards, The Newsroom) about the urgency of a climate-focused federal infrastructure package. During the conversation, Constance Zimmer interviews Mike Young, EnviroVoters’ Political & Organizing Director, and discusses the need for bold climate solutions and how Californians can get involved. Watch the conversation here.

“We have a once in a generation opportunity to make bold and meaningful progress on the climate crisis at scale, and our leaders must act now,” said Mike Young, EnviroVoters’ Political & Organizing Director. “The climate crisis isn’t coming, it’s here. Californians are already experiencing severe drought and extreme heat along with costly wildfire seasons that span longer and grow more intense each year. We can and must pass an infrastructure package that will mitigate these problems and prevent future ones by investing in a clean energy economy and creating good-paying union jobs.”

The California Environmental Voters also recently conducted a statewide poll regarding voter attitudes towards the climate crisis. The poll reveals that voters throughout the state are deeply concerned about the crisis and want to see the Biden administration take action. Some of the additional topics that the poll explores include wildfire prevention and investments in offshore wind and clean drinking water infrastructure.

Key findings include:

  • 69% of those surveyed say it’s important for Congress to address the climate crisis by 2030, including 57% who say it’s very important.

  • 84% of Californians surveyed support Congress investing funds to make California’s wildfire season less severe.

  • 84% of those surveyed support Congress investing in clean water infrastructure. 63% of Californians strongly support this investment.

  • 67% of those surveyed support investing in offshore wind, including 49% who strongly support it.

“Californians across the political spectrum want to see President Biden take action on climate,” said Aaron McCall, EnviroVoters’ Federal Advocacy Coordinator. “We have to meet the scale of the crisis we’re currently in with comprehensive investments in clean energy, jobs, and justice that put our nation fully on the path to 100% clean energy by 2035.”

California Environmental Voters (formerly the California League of Conservation Voters) believes the climate crisis is here and this moment requires transformative change. California has the policy solutions to stop climate change but lacks the political will to do it at the rate and scale that’s necessary. EnviroVoters exists to build the political power to solve the climate crisis, advance justice, and create a roadmap for global action. We organize voters, elect and train candidates, and hold lawmakers accountable for bold policy change. We won’t stop until we have resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all.
