SACRAMENTO, CA – The California Alliance, a coalition of the Consumer Attorneys of California, California Environmental Voters, and United Food and Commercial Workers – Western States Council celebrated today after voters decisively defeated the Republican recall.

The statement below can be attributed to the California Alliance:

“California voters sent a strong message to extremist Republicans behind the recall initiative: California’s legacy of environmental leadership will not be undone. We look forward to continuing our work with Governor Gavin Newsom and his administration to protect our environment from Big Oil and corporate polluters, invest in workers and families whose lives have been upended by the climate crisis, and deliver justice and equity in our economic recovery.”

The California Alliance’s digital ads campaign, powerful video, and website made clear that a “NO” vote on the recall was a vote for the climate, good jobs, and justice.

California Environmental Voters (formerly the California League of Conservation Voters) believes the climate crisis is here and this moment requires transformative change. California has the policy solutions to stop climate change but lacks the political will to do it at the rate and scale that’s necessary. EnviroVoters exists to build the political power to solve the climate crisis, advance justice, and create a roadmap for global action. We organize voters, elect and train candidates, and hold lawmakers accountable for bold policy change. We won’t stop until we have resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all.
