SB 342 – Senate Governance and Finance
Environmental Justice Representation on the South Coast AQMD Board
SB 342 would empower community involvement by providing greater representation in decisions about cleaning up toxic air pollution for communities who are disproportionately burdened by high levels of pollution in the South Coast Air Basin (which is home to about half of the state's population and includes all of Orange County, and parts of Los Angeles County, Riverside County, and San Bernardino County). This bill would have added two environmental justice seats to the South Coast Air Quality Management District governing board, requiring those members to have a proven history of fighting against environmental racism in low-income communities of color and advocating for environmental justice.
