AB 1238 – Assembly Floor #2

Freedom to Walk Act

AB 1238 would have ended the unequal enforcement of jaywalking tickets, particularly in low-income communities and communities of color where these laws are unfairly enforced. This policy will promote a system that is more welcoming to pedestrians by prohibiting fines for crossing the street when no cars are present, including outside crosswalks which may be much farther apart than needed for many communities that lack adequate pedestrian infrastructure.
