AB 2079

Groundwater High-Capacity Water Wells

Improperly cited large water wells can cause incredible damage to crucial sources of drinking water, like aquifers, that many communities rely on. This bill would have helped protect sources of drinking water from well interference and contamination while helping limit subsidence that can permanently damage our aquifers. AB 2079 would have required greater interagency coordination and public notice regarding applications to drill water wells and prohibited a local agency from approving new “large-diameter, high-capacity” wells within one-quarter mile of domestic wells and areas of significant land subsidence.
