SB 5:

Parks Bond

Author: Senate pro tem Kevin de León

It has been 15 years since California has passed a park bond. Over that time, we have seen our State Parks accumulate over $2 billion in deferred maintenance, and witnessed the need for local parks being wildly out-paced by population growth and demand, particularly in low-income communities. SB 5 places a $4 billion bond on the 2018 ballot that will fund California’s local and state parks, coast, rivers, and waterways. This investment will address urgent park needs, help protect our communities from the heat in the summer, improve access to clean drinking water, and provide critical habitats for California wildlife.

About California Environmental Voters

California Environmental Voters (formerly the California League of Conservation Voters) believes the climate crisis is here and this moment requires transformative change. California has the policy solutions to stop climate change but lacks the political will to do it at the rate and scale that’s necessary. EnviroVoters exists to build the political power to solve the climate crisis, advance justice, and create a roadmap for global action. We organize voters, elect and train candidates, and hold lawmakers accountable for bold policy change. We won’t stop until we have resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all.
