SB 423:

Safe & Accessible In-Person Voting

Author:

Senator Tom Umberg

Builds on the Governor’s Executive Order which established that California would prioritize maintaining access to in-person voting for the November 2020 General Election. This bill specifically established requirements for safe in-person voting access by mandating a minimum of one polling location per 10,000 voters, at least two ballot drop-off locations in every county, and ensured in-person voting locations were open the weekend before election day for early voting with extended hours in order to reduce the potential for crowds. SB 423 became effective immediately when signed into law by Governor Newsom on August 6th, 2020.

About California Environmental Voters

California Environmental Voters (formerly the California League of Conservation Voters) believes the climate crisis is here and this moment requires transformative change. California has the policy solutions to stop climate change but lacks the political will to do it at the rate and scale that’s necessary. EnviroVoters exists to build the political power to solve the climate crisis, advance justice, and create a roadmap for global action. We organize voters, elect and train candidates, and hold lawmakers accountable for bold policy change. We won’t stop until we have resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all.
