SB 1239:
Weakening smog check protections
Author: Senator Beth Gaines
SB 1239 (Gaines) would have exempted from biennial smog check inspections all motor vehicles manufactured after the 1975 model year but prior to the 1981 model year, if the owner provided proof that the motor vehicle is insured as a collector motor vehicle. Smog checks are a critical part of California’s efforts to reduce air pollution because they ensure that cars with excessive emissions are repaired.
