SB 342 – Senate Floor
Environmental Justice Seats on the South Coast Air Quality Management Board
The South Coast Air Basin is where almost half of California’s population lives and has some of the worst air pollution in the nation. Lower income communities and communities of color with the worst air quality and higher levels of asthma, cancer, and respiratory diseases don’t currently have equal representation on the board that makes decisions about how to improve air quality. This bill would have added two environmental justice seats to the South Coast Air Quality Management District board, giving those who live in communities that have higher levels of pollution a greater voice in pushing for solutions to improve air quality and public health.
