AB 2201 – Senate Natural Resources and Water Committee

Community Drinking Water Protection Act

Despite extreme drought, large corporations continue to drill hundreds of new groundwater wells in California even if the amount of water they plan to use risks the local community’s drinking water sources. AB 2201 would have empowered groundwater sustainability agencies to ensure counties do not approve new groundwater wells unless they are consistent with state groundwater sustainability goals and do not harm the communities drinking water sources, thereby preventing permanent damage to the state’s groundwater basins and protecting drinking water for many Californians in disadvantaged communities.
