Ending Offshore Oil Drilling
The only way to end oil spills is to stop offshore oil drilling. Californians have seen too many tragic oil spills off of our coast that have polluted beaches and killed wildlife. SB 953 would have begun a process to phase out offshore oil drilling in California State waters by requiring a study to determine the value of the leases currently owned by oil and gas companies and prompt negotiations between those companies and the state to shut down operations over time.
