AB 1279
Committing to Carbon Neutrality
To achieve climate stability, we must take more carbon out of the atmosphere than we put into it. Carbon neutrality is when the amount of carbon sequestered (absorbed) equals the amount carbon released into the atmosphere. AB 1279 codifies into law the state’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality as soon as possible, but no later than 2045, first put in place by an Executive Order signed by Governor Jerry Brown in 2018.
