AB 421 – Assembly Elections Committee

Referendum Reform

AB 421 will help California’s communities take back their power over direct democracy by enacting reforms for state referendums, which are attempts at overturning an already existing law that have been taken advantage of by corporate polluters. Some of the reforms include eliminating the ever-confusing “yes” and “no” vote options on the ballot, replacing it with simple terms like “keep the law” or “overturn the law,” and disclosing the top three funders of an initiative in the voter guide.
